own learning-the difference between film print and digital projection

There are multiple differences between film print and digital projection.
Film print:

  • More expensive than Digital Projection (D.P)
  • Almost completely extinct
  • Classic black and white
  • Christopher Nolan said in an article in 2013 that he wasn't satisfied with the quality of digital projection, (the standard was 2k at the time) and that "35mm prints offer a depth to the image that D.P doesn't have" and "allows the world that is being projected to be projected in a profound way".
Digital Projection
  • Cheaper that F.P
  • Has mostly replaced F.P
  • Colourful
  • Has caused film making to evolve because of the creative possibilities that only D.P offers e.g 3D and higher resolution
  • The medium needs less light than F.P
  • Allows shooting to be done at a higher film rate
