fps stands for frames per second and is the speed at which a camera can film shots. 48fps is mostly used for action shots / slow motion and is gives the effect of time being sped up / slowed down. In TV and digital cinema there are three main speeds of fps they are 24, 25 and 30. However there are many more variations, these variations are used for different shots e.g 48fps for action shots.
